Dr. Ioannis Manakos   Manakos Ioannis

Born in 1973 in Athens, he studied Geology (specialization in Physical Geography, GIS and Remote Sensing) at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).

He obtained a M.Sc. degree in Land Improvements (specialization in Erosion, Expert Systems, GIS and Remote Sensing) at the School of Agriculture of the same University.

He was then employed as a scientific researcher by the German Research Community at the Faculty of Ecosystem and Landscape Management of the Technical University of Munich (Germany), where he completed his PhD in Remote Sensing and Precision Agriculture in 2003.

The following year he was employed as Assistant Professor at the Technological Educational Institute of Kavala and taught Remote Sensing. Since 2005 he has been working as the Responsible Scientific Officer in Environmental Management at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

Research Fellows

Mr. Dany Raymond Ghosn   Ghosn Dany Raymond

Born in 1971 in Beirut, he studied Agricultural Engineering at the Lebanese University. In 1995, he was awarded a scholarship offered by the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania, Greece (MAICh) and followed a M.Sc. degree course in Environment and Renewable Resources.

In 1998, he was awarded a scholarship offered by the Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique, (INRA, Avignon-France) and followed a post-graduate degree course in Biology of Evolution and Ecology at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure Agronomique de Montpellier (ENSAM).

Since 1999 he has been working as a research fellow in Environmental Management at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

Mr. George Kazakis   Kazakis George

Born in 1961 in Almyros-Volos, he studied Forestry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki / Department of Forestry and Natural Environment.

From 1989 until 1992 he worked as a Forester at the Samaria National Park of the Forest Directorate of Chania. Since 1993 he has been working as a research fellow in Environmental Management at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

Mr. Panagiotis Nyktas   Nyktas Panagiotis

Born in 1976 in Heraklion, he studied Environmental Studies at the University of the Aegean . In 1998, during the Erasmus/Socrates exchange programme he was involved in the study of eutrophication in relation with historic land use changes of Llangorse Lake in Brecon Beacons National Park , South Wales .

In 2003, he obtained a M.Sc. degree in Soil and Water (specialization in Soil Survey and Landscape Modelling) at the University of Wageningen . In 2004, he collaborated with the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR), Institute of Inland Waters within the framework of TempQsim (EU-FP5) project. Since 2006, he has been working as a research fellow in Environmental Management at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania.

Dr. Chariton Kalaitzidis   Kalaitzidis Chariton

He was born in 1975 in Thessaloniki, Greece. He studied at the Department of Agriculture (Plant production) at the University of Thessaly in Volos, Greece, graduating in 1999.

During the 1999-2000 academic year, he undertool an MSc course in Environmental Remote Sensing at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, obtaining that title in 2000.

In October of the same year he initiated his PhD studies at the Department of Environmental and Geogrpahical Sciences of the Manchester Metropolitan University in England. He was officially awarded the doctorate degree in 2005 after succesfully defeding his thesis on estimation of canopy biochemicals with remote sensing.

He has been employed as a research fellow in the Department of Environmental Management of the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh), since April 2007.

Ms Ilektra Remoundou   Remoundou Ilektra

Born in 1981 in Athens, she studied Plant Production at the Technological Educational Institute of Larissa. Since June 2004, she has been working as a Laboratory Technician at the Mediterranean Plant Conservation Unit of MAICh and she had participated in many European and National research projects and from January 2009 she has been working as a research fellow at the Geoinformation in Environmental Management department of MAICh.
