The project will analyse the macroeconomic environment and agricultural sectors of the thirteen Mediterranean, non-EU countries, namely Malta, Turkey, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Cyprus, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Israel, Gaza Strip and West Bank, Jordan. Although the analysis will cover all main commodities of the investigated regions, particular emphasis will be placed on their fruit and vegetables and olive oil production, since these products are among the most important commodities produced in these countries with significant contribution to the national economies. The main objectives of the project is to assess these countries’ future potentials taking into account the ongoing liberalisation of their economies and the strengthening of their economic relations with the EU and to evaluate potential impacts both on EU as a whole as well as on individual Member States that produce competitive products. Therefore, certain EU countries will also be included into the study for comparison and projectional reasons. In order to fully capitulate on future potentials for these countries’ fruit and vegetables (fresh and processed) and olive oil sectors, the EU market’s import demand will also be accounted for.
