Plant Biotechnology & GMO-Testing

  • Qualitative Analysis for the Detection of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in: Crops: Soy, Wheat, Cotton, Animal feed, Fish food
Processed Foods: Olive Oil, Carob seeds
  • Quantitative Analysis for the Detection of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs) in the following crops: Soy, Corn, Cotton
  • Development of Quantitative Standards for Quantitative GMO detection with Real Time PCR
  • Identification of the varietal origin of olive oil

LABORATORY OF SOIL SCIENCE AND PLANT DIAGNOSTICS

The Laboratory of Soil Science and Plant Diagnostics is equipped with modern, state-of-the-art facilities that allows the performance of advanced chemical and physico-chemical analysis of the soil, plant tissue, irrigation water and compost. The resulting data is indicative of the soil or leaf tissue sample quality and connects to applications such as: crop production, hydroponics, organic cultivation and environmental protection. Soil-lab facilities are also used by MSc students during their 2nd year research. The laboratory collaborates with other research and academic institutes mainly in applied research projects and serves as farmer’s consultant on plant nutrition and soil quality aspects aiming higher quality production.
